Dear all,
I am moving my blog to http://latesteditions.blogspot.com/. It is mainly a book review blog, which also hosts a section on early literacy. There will be rhymes and story times for children of all ages featured there too!

Dinosaur Rhyme
DINOSAURS
Bend to the floor,
head down low,
Move like a Stegosaurus,
WAY out wide,
Fly like a Pteranodon,
soar and glide!
Bend to the floor,
head down low,
Move like a Stegosaurus,
from long ago.
Reach up tall,
try to be
As tall as Apatosaurus,
munching on a tree.
Grumble and growl!
Act like a Tyrannosaurus
on the prowl!

Funny Blue Peacock
The funny blue peacock struts all over town.
He tries flying up, but flops quickly down.He looks to the left, then he looks to the right!
Then, the funny blue peacock struts out of sight!

Valentine Craft
In case you do a craft for Valentine's Day, here is one easy 3-D card to make.
Materials
Scissors
Construction Paper (Red, Pink, White)
Heart-shaped Doilies (Red and White)
Measuring tape
Long roll of paper, any colour
Pencils
Stickers
White Glue
Popsicle sticks for glue
To prepare before
1) Cut out a number of hearts from pink, white and red construction paper so that there are a few more than the total number of participants anticipated.
2) Cut fairly long strips of paper, 1 - 2 inches wide, and two-three feet long. There should be one per participant.
If the children are really small, then you may wish to type out the card messages beforehand: "How much do I love you?" "So much!"
In the program
1) Once the children arrive at your program, have them decorate the outside of the card first. Glue the doily down first.
2) Then glue the construction heart in the centre.
3) Glue down the first part of the message.
4) Children can then trace their hands.
5) Fold a strip of paper accordion-style
6) Glue the hands to each end of the folded paper.
7) Attach one hand to the inside of the card.
8) Glue "This much!" inside the card. Once the card is dried, the children can pull on the hands, and measure their love for the person to whom they are giving the card.

Five Little Puppies
This one works well on fingers or on a feltboard! It is a charming counting rhyme for babies and toddlers.
Five Little Puppies
Five little puppies were playing in the snow. Have your fingers extended or all dogs on the board.
This one saw a rabbit, and he decided to go. Bend a finger or remove a dog.
This one saw a butterfly, and he began to race. Bend a finger or remove a dog.
This one saw a cat,and he began to chase. Bend/remove a third dog.
This one tried to catch his tail, and he went round and round. Bend/remove a fourth dog.
This one was so quiet, he never made a sound. All fingers/dogs are now gone.

Chocolate Milk!
This should remind you of "Peas Porridge".
The chocolate milk's hot!
The chocolate milk's cold!
The chocolate milk that's in the fridge is 9 days old!
Some like it hot!
Some like it cold!
Some like it in the fridge, 9 days old!
